Carrilho da Graça arquitectos recently won the AIT Award in the category "Transportation" with the Pedestrian Bridge over the Carpinteira Stream, Covilhã, Portugal

The architecture magazine AIT by Stuttgart-based Verlagsanstalt Alexander Koch ranks among Europe’s most renowned and, at the age of 122 years, also oldest architecture magazines.

The newly established AIT-Award is the publishing house’s first own competition in more than 115 years. Correspondingly, the initiator set out to find the best architecture and interior design projects worldwide.

More than 1.750 projects were registered for the AIT-Award, almost 1.600 were submitted; and for two days, the 13-member expert jury had the task to make out the best projects from 1.546 works in 21 categories, which are no older than three years.

Eventually, a selection list including up to ten projects per category was issued and the best three projects were nominated. Thereby, the categories ranged from public buildings to luxury interior.

The jury had to assess buildings from all five continents and 42 countries. Especially remarkable was the high level of participation of Indian architects as well as the extraordinary quality of Eastern European projects."

"Pedestrian Bridge over the Carpinteira Stream"

"With its abstract reduction and inner harmony of its load-bearing structure this filigree objects generates a poetic moment.

Enhanced by the playful distortion of the described path, the crossing turns into an embarking, a spatial sequence high above the valley.

In the middle of unpretentious suburban structures this is an impressive, elegant landmark, a place."
